We visited Stanley Beer Yard a week or so ago to attend one of their ‘Craft Beer 101’ #StanleyBeerTasting sessions. (Read more about it on our joint blog: Stanley Beer Yard Craft Beer 101 on SOCIAL SAVAGE)
So just in case the chilled vibe, vinyl sessions, great beer and food and quirky decor isn’t enough to attract you to visit this establishment – here’s another reason!
In collaboration with Corona, there are exciting jazz events lined up to entice you musically as well. This is such a great initiative, especially due to the demand to make live jazz more accessible to the general public.
As from next week, starting on 23 March – and kicking off at 19.00, Stanley Beer Yard will be hosting the Corona Busking Sessions. This will take place every first and third Wednesday of the month and will feature some of South Africa’s top young and award winning jazz musicians. Just listen to this line-up: Jazz Guitarist Vuma Ian Levin (winner Keep an Eye International Jazz awards, Dutch Jazz Awards, Semi finalist Montreux Socar International Jazz Guitar Competion, Dutch Eindwerk Prijs winner, SENA electric guitar competition finalist, Standard Bank South African Jazz Youth Orchestra); multi-Award winning Bassist Benjamin Jephta (2016 SAMA Nominee, Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year 2016, SAMRO Competition 2nd place), Trumpeter Marcus Wyatt (SAMA winner and 11 time SAMA Nominee) and top South African Drummer Peter Auret (SAMA Winner).
What makes these sessions unique is that, after the planned performances, anyone who would like to, will get the opportunity to get on the stage and busk along with these inspiring professional musicians. And, the music style isn’t just limited to jazz – any form of music is welcome.
But wait, there’s more! With the evergrowing demand for live jazz gigs, also in collaboration with Corona, Stanley Beer Yard will also be hosting the Corona Jazz Sessions. These sessions are planned for every second and last Sunday of every month, starting on Sunday, 2 April from 14.00.
Acclaimed jazz guitarist Vuma Ian Levin (above) will be the host – and the line-up will alternate in trios – playing mainly South African and American Jazz. The trios will be made up by top local musicians like the host Vuma Levin (on guitar); Benjamin Jephta (Bass); Bokani Dyer (Piano) – Winner the Standard bank Young Artist Award, Winner SAMRO Piano Competion, Nominee SAMA awards 2016; and Thandi Ntuli (Piano/Voice) – Metro FM Awards Nominee, SAMA Nominee. World class entertaiment not be be missed!
