Whisky Live Celebration coming to Pretoria!

A lot of people may feel intimidated by the idea of attending a Whisky tasting.  Isn’t it just for whisky snobs?  Or middle-aged men in smoking jackets…. with weird accents?  Nope, not at all!  If you want to learn more about whisky – this is definitely the perfect opportunity to explore some of the most popular and most highly acclaimed whisky brands from across the world.

We will chat in more detail about the various exhibitors and distillers that will be present at the Whisky Live Celebration at Brooklyn Square (oh, but the way – diarise 4 – 6 May!).  But for now, just a little teaser:

If you are curious to taste and explore Irish whiskey, look out for the triple distilled, triple blended, and triple task matured Tullamore D.E.W.  This will be a real treat, seeing that only 70 tasks of this 14 Year Old were produced.  Sound pretty special huh?  Limited quantities will be available for sampling, so join the rush Ladies and Gentlemen!

Also, look out for newcomer The Pogues (named after the Irish Celtic rock band) – with a blend of 50% Irish grain Whiskey and 50% Irish Single Malt Whiskey, it definitely is on my ‘must taste’ list!

The list of impressive Irish Whiskeys also includes the Irish Potstills of Midleton, Bushmills (made at the world’s oldest distillery – now that is a lesson in history and tradition for you!), and well as Jameson Caskmates.  Now this really made me sit up straight!  Listen to this: “an embodiment of the spirit of collaboration, aged in craft beer barrels with notes of cocoa, coffee and butterscotch combined with Jameson distinct triple distilled smoothness”  Sign me up please!

Moving on to the Whiskies of Islay!

Whisky Live 2

Mr Whisky himself and Africa’s only Master of the Quaich, Pierre Meintjes will chat about Bunnahabhain Islay single malt.  We attended a whisky tasting with Pierre a couple of months ago and his knowledge is truely impressive!

Laphroaig and Ardbeg  will also be there to grab peat lovers’ attention!

And then, cocktails!  Told you – there will be something for everyone!

Black Bottle will be serving up Rob Roy and Old Fashioned cocktails with style and flare  by bartender extraordinaire and owner of SIP Exclusive, Owen O’Rielly.

Are you more interested in blends – you must definitely try Glenbrynth and Scottish Leader (you can taste Original, Signature and 12 Year Old)

And one I am very keen to try – the quirky and interesting Monkey Shoulder!

If you are a fan of American Whiskey, Jack Daniel’s will be on as well – from the old favourite Old No7, Gentleman Jack and Single Barrel – as well Woodford Reserve and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Maker’s Mark will also be on offer this year!

And then, a personal favourite – Bain’s Cape Mountain Whisky presented by Master Distiller Andy Watts – and listen to this:  it will be avalable to taste alongside a work-in-progress 15 Year Old grain whisky.  I am really looking forward to that!

Andy Watts is also the maker of Multi Award Winning Three Ships Whisky, and a very limited amount of Three Ships 15 Year Old Pinotage Cask Finish (a world’s first!), as well as the recently released Three Ships 10 Year Old Single Malt will be available to try.

To make it even more tempting – what is better than a cocktail served in glass? Consol pop-up cockail bar will also be serving complimentary cocktails – that should be interesting!

For now, look at how much fun these people had, and book your ticket to this popular event before it sells out.  Whether you are a newbie whisky sipper or a seasoned connoisseur, there will be a whisky that will tickle your fancy!
